A massive landslide at a garbage dump in Uganda's capital, Kampala has resulted in the death of 21 people. The death toll was initially reported to be 8 and later 17. Rescuers are continuing to dig through the rubble in search of survivors after the landslide which occurred due to heavy rains. Many people, including those making a living by trawling through piles of junk in search of anything that can be resold, were buried while they were sleeping. The city authorities have been trying to find a new place for the garbage for years. President Yoweri Museveni has ordered an investigation into how people were allowed to live near the 'potentially dangerous dump' and ordered the evacuation of people from the area. Rescue operations are still ongoing
