The UN human rights chief, Volker Türk, has announced that a team of UN experts will soon visit Bangladesh to investigate the killings during student protests. This investigation was prompted by the 2006 Nobel Peace Laureate, Professor Muhammad Yunus, who thanked Türk and UN Secretary General António Guterres for their support in addressing the "students' revolution" and the "unprecedented and devastating killings of student protesters." The interim government, led by Professor Yunus, has made human rights a priority and sought UN cooperation to rebuild the country and uphold these values.
