In a surprising turn of events, Abu Hanif, the general secretary of the Awami League for Ward 4 in Majidpur Union of Titas Upazila, Comilla, has been appointed as the president of the same ward’s Jamaat-e-Islami unit. This revelation, made public through posters for a Jamaat workers' conference, has caused widespread controversy. Hanif confirmed the appointment and stated that he had long been involved with Jamaat politics but was "forcibly" made the Awami League secretary for development purposes in his area. He said he plans to resign from the Awami League soon. Local Jamaat leaders, including Upazila Amir Shamim Sarkar and District Amir Abdul Matin, claimed Hanif has been an active Jamaat worker for over a decade and was forced into Awami League politics. The incident has sparked debates over shifting political affiliations and their implications.
