The United States has canceled the visa of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, according to a report by CNN's affiliate, News18. This follows Sheikh Hasina's departure from power on Monday under pressure from student protests. She fled to India, arriving at Hindan Air Force Station in Ghaziabad on a Bangladesh Air Force plane. Hasina had planned to seek political asylum in the United Kingdom, but reports indicate that the UK is unwilling to offer her asylum. Along with her, her sister Sheikh Rehana, who holds UK citizenship, also fled to India. Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar confirmed that Hasina requested urgent, short-term asylum in India. During her stay in India, she is expected to remain for a brief period only. Meanwhile, Sheikh Hasina has met with India's National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and senior military officials, who have assured her of maximum security.
